Dental Insurance

Most dental care coverage places an emphasis on regular preventive care by covering routine and preventive costs at 100%, with no waiting period. A thorough examination by the dentist and a set of x-rays are all it usually takes to diagnose a problem. By placing an emphasis on prevention, and by covering regular teeth cleaning and check-ups, dental insurance saved Americans nearly $100 billion in dental care costs.

Dental coverage is available both to employer groups of two or more enrolled employees and for individual (self-pay) plans. Typical dental insurance provides the following coverage:

  • Annual deductible = $50/person up to a maximum of $150/family
  • Annual maximum benefit = $1,000/person (total amount paid by the insurance company)
  • Preventive Care (e.g., routine check-up's, cleanings, x-rays, etc.) covered at 100%.
  • Basic/Restorative Care (e.g., cavity treatments, fillings, etc.) covered at 80%, after the deductible, up to the annual maximum.*
  • Major Dentistry Care (e.g., crowns, bridges, root canals, etc.) covered at 50%, after the deductible, up to the annual maximum.*

* For group plans without continuous coverage and for all individual plans, waiting periods or reduced benefits apply for Basic and Major services.
