Group Health Insurance
Group insurance is available to members of a formal group such as employees and/or officers of a business. Group insurance is distinguished from individual insurance in which single policies are sold to one person at a time; all eligible employees and dependents within the group are enrolled at one time and the employer pays at least part of the employees' premium.
I work with eight companies that offer health insurance plans for small businesses (click on "Companies" in the column on the left).
In Colorado, small business insurance is available for groups of between one and 50 employees. Groups of two or more eligible employees can qualify for group coverage under Federal guidelines and regulations. Colorado is one of few states that also recognizes "Business Groups of One" (e.g., self-employed persons, the only employee of a corporation in Colorado, S Corporations, etc.).
To qualify for group coverage, a business must meet at least the following general requirements:
- Be a legitimate, viable business and able to prove that with appropriate tax documents, etc.
- Be willing to contribute at least 25% - 50% of the employee premium (varies by plan selected).
- Pay the group's premium with one group check and collect the employees' share of premiums through payroll deduction or some other means.
- Offer the plan to all eligible employees and dependents (minimum eligibility standards also apply).
Other requirements may also apply.
Business Groups of One have even more specific qualification criteria and enrollment opportunities. Please click here for specific information regarding Business Groups of One.
Because every group is different, I take the time to find the right plan for your group. To find out more information, or just check out the rates for group health insurance, fill out this no obligation group health insurance quote form. |
